Important: This book describes the technical architecture of casino and gambling systems for educational purposes. It is NOT a gambling product, does not facilitate any form of gambling, and does not provide gambling services.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By purchasing, downloading, or accessing "The Backend of Luck: Inside the Systems That Power Real Money Gaming" (the "Book"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (the "Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not purchase or use the Book.
These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("You", "User", or "Customer") and Gustavo Colin ("Publisher", "We", "Us", or "Our"), an individual entrepreneur operating from the Netherlands.
2. Product Description
The Book is a digital technical publication available in PDF and EPUB formats. It covers the architecture, engineering, and operation of real-money gaming platforms, including but not limited to:

- Security and compliance frameworks
- Infrastructure and deployment patterns

The Book is sold in multiple tiers (Essential, Professional, Enterprise), each offering different levels of content and supplementary materials as described on the website at the time of purchase.
3. License and Usage Rights
3.1 License Grant
Upon purchase, We grant You a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Book for your own personal and professional educational purposes.
3.2 Permitted Uses
- Reading and studying the Book on your personal devices
- Referencing code examples for your own projects (subject to Section 3.4)
- Printing a single copy for personal use
3.3 Prohibited Uses
You may NOT:
- Redistribute, share, or resell the Book in any form
- Upload the Book to file-sharing services, torrent sites, or any public repository
- Use the Book content for commercial training or courses without prior written consent
- Remove or alter any copyright notices, watermarks, or proprietary markings
- Create derivative works based on the Book for commercial distribution
- Share account credentials or download links with third parties
3.4 Code Examples
Code examples included in the Book are provided for educational illustration. You may adapt and use code snippets in your own projects, provided that you do not reproduce substantial portions of the Book's code as a standalone product or training material.
4. Educational Purpose Disclaimer
The Book is strictly an educational technical resource. It describes how gambling systems work from an engineering perspective. The Publisher does not operate any gambling services, does not provide gambling products, and does not encourage or facilitate gambling in any form.
Any casino simulations, demo applications, or example code referenced in the Book are provided solely for educational and illustrative purposes. They do not involve real money, real odds, or real gambling activity.
5. No Warranty
The Book is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:
- No warranty of fitness for production use: Code examples are illustrative and may require substantial modification, security hardening, and testing before use in any production environment.
- No warranty of accuracy: While We strive for accuracy, technology evolves and regulations change. We do not guarantee that all information remains current.
- No warranty of compliance: The Book discusses regulatory frameworks but does not constitute legal or compliance advice. You must consult qualified professionals for your specific jurisdiction.
- No warranty of completeness: The Book represents one approach to building these systems. Alternative architectures and patterns exist.
6. Intellectual Property
All content in the Book, including text, diagrams, code examples, and supplementary materials, is the intellectual property of Gustavo Colin and is protected by copyright law and international treaties. The Book is protected under Dutch copyright law (Auteurswet) and applicable international conventions (Berne Convention, WIPO Copyright Treaty).
The trademarks, service marks, and logos of third-party products mentioned in the Book (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Scala) belong to their respective owners and are used for reference purposes only.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- The Publisher shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from the use of the Book.
- The Publisher's total liability for any claim related to the Book shall not exceed the amount You paid for the Book.
- The Publisher is not liable for any losses arising from implementing code examples, architectural patterns, or operational procedures described in the Book in a production environment.
8. Account and Access
Purchases are processed through third-party platforms (e.g., Gumroad). You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and download links. We are not responsible for unauthorized access resulting from your failure to protect your login information.
We reserve the right to revoke access to the Book if we reasonably believe that these Terms have been violated, including unauthorized redistribution.
9. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes arising from or related to these Terms or the Book shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
If You are a consumer residing in the European Union, You may also be entitled to invoke the mandatory consumer protection provisions of the law of Your country of residence.
10. Dispute Resolution
In the event of a dispute, We encourage You to first contact Us at support@thebackendofluck.com to attempt to resolve the matter informally. We will respond within 10 business days.
If informal resolution fails, disputes shall be resolved by the competent courts in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. For EU consumers, the European Online Dispute Resolution platform is available at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
11. Modifications to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Material changes will be communicated via email to customers who have provided their email address.
Your continued use of the Book after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms. If You do not agree with the changes, You may stop using the Book.
12. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
13. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Refund Policy, constitute the entire agreement between You and the Publisher regarding the Book and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.
